Well, so far I've never seen any yaoi with a good plot or good characters, but after all I've never watched a yaoi anime and barely even read some mangas I mainly try to find yaoi where the guys look more muscular. Maybe because women are more open to alternative relationships than men? I will say that yaoi guys are often a bit too girly looking for me. I think the reason that yaoi has less men reading it because there are lot less gay men out there than there are women? But I guess that doesn't quite account for why there are more women reading yuri. Am I wrong in thinking that gay male sex is in general more hardcore irl than lesbian sex? I dunno, I've literally never seen lesbian sex. If I'm looking for yaoi, I want hard yaoi so I can see why you'd think that it's more extreme. It's starts of really great, it's very bara but I like that, then it slowly gets more extreme. I am still TRAUMATISED by the later chapters of Pride by Gengorou (who btw wrote the totally adorable and wholesome Otouto no Otto). Yeah, yaoi sometimes gets weird but I'll tell you this for sure - bara gets weirder. I’m not a man myself so I didn’t know whether that was true or not. I thought that maybe the sex scenes in yaoi was funny looking or straight up bad for those men who have had experience. Yeah, I guess that every porn is a glamorized version of sex, I was trying to find a reason why yuri has more women reading, and yaoi has little men reading (in comparison to women). I personally prefer yuri over yaoi because I feel like even if porn is supposed to be unrealistic and glamorized, most of the yaoi I’ve read are so extreme I usually just end up with a question mark above my head. weird I guess? Maybe I am reading the wrong ones.
Some of the yaoi I have read are uncomfortable and. I wouldn't watch to watch/read a realistic sex scene because it would probably look awkward. Sure, the sex is not necessarily realistic but it's like porn, so it's a glamorised version of sex. Like do you find it to be laughable because of how bad it portrays the way men’s body work in general? I personally would love an adaptation of something by Itto like Priapus or my personal favourite Walk on Water (webtoon), where the guys are more my taste - that would be great. The guys aren't quite my type because they're a little bit effeminate so I do have a preference for bara stuff when it comes to manga but there's basically no bara anime (Legend of Blue Wolves doesn't count) so I can't exactly enjoy that so yaoi will do. Yaoi manga is better than anime because a lot of Yaoi anime isn't great and is very cheesy but I'll still watch it every so often. Straight guys get ecchi and for me, yaoi is basically my version of that.
Like there are 5,798 yaoi mangas listed on MAL alone. When I first started reading yaoi I was kinda surprised at the amount of content. I like yaoi for what it is (but I prefer shounen-ai - wholesome BL is just adorable).
I’m sorry if my questions sound stupid and have obvious answers, I’m very curious about this topic and want to know what others opinions are. I found this really interesting and want to know what your thoughts and feelings on this are.įor gay men, what do you think about yaoi? Like do you find it to be laughable because of how bad it portrays the way men’s body work in general? If you hate it, why?įor gay women, what do you think about yuri? Like do you think the stuff presented does resemble real life? If you hate it, why?Īnd finally, for everyone: why do you think both yuri and yaoi are mainly directed towards women? Why is yaoi not mainly directed towards men? And since the lesbian porn industry is mostly made for men, why is that not the case here for the animanga community? Whereas for yaoi, most of the mangakas are women and the audience are women. I had just read this, and found out that most yuri mangakas are women, and the consumers were also women. (To be clear, I am strictly talking about yuri and yaoi, NOT shoujo/shounen ai)
